BCFS Health and Human Services Providing Tyler, Texas Young Moms with Mobile Pre- and Post-Natal Care

BCFS Health and Human Services is part of a global nonprofit organization that develops strong relationships with local communities. It provides medical care and support for various groups including youth in foster care, low-income parents, homeless youth, victims of domestic violence, and new and expecting mothers. A nationally recognized program the organization offers throughout Texas is known as “Healthy Start.” It’s a program for expectant mothers and those with children aged under 18 months that offers medical care and educational support.

Healthy Start sets moms on the road to success and wellness by providing them with medical care and advice that ensures young babies’ health needs are met. This work is intended to reach several community goals, including lowering the rates of child abuse, dropping incidence of infant mortality, and providing more stable and nurturing home environments for babies. The program offers case management and medical care services to southern and eastern Texas residents.

Within Tyler, Texas BCFS Health and Human Services also provides a mobile care Healthy Start truck. This truck will visit young mothers at their desired location and provides on-site comprehensive medical services and resources. It offers mothers with limited transportation or health mobility issues the option to receive care services outside their residence or at other more convenient locations. The mobile medical unit serves to complement the full array of services at Healthy Start locations which includes pharmacy and lab services, pediatric care, CHIP and Medicaid registration assistance, and other services.

The mobile care unit and the entire Healthy Start program are part of BCFS Health and Human Services’ broader goals of engaging in communities like Tyler. The organization actively builds trust within the communities it serves in order to increase usage of its programs and to help as many people as possible.
