7 Types of Pallets for Your Business
Did you know over 500 million pallets are made every year in the U.S.? Over 90 percent of those pallets are made out of wood.
There are many pallet options that you can choose from based on what is right for your business. Keep reading and we will walk you through the seven different types of pallets that you can choose from for your business.
1. Block Pallets
Block pallets have a four-way entry for packaged products. This is helpful for heavier products because the way the pallet is set up lets a forklift easily grab it from any angle.
They can be made from wood, plastic, or plywood and you can get them with or without bottom boards depending on the support you need. Standard wood block pallets can hold about 4,600 pounds.
2. Stringer Pallets
Stringer pallets have two points of entry for forklifts. Two stringers run through the top and bottom decks.
An important note is that the size is listed by the length of the stringboard and then the deck boards. The stringers are used as extra support for the packaged inventory.
3. Double-Face Pallet
Double-face pallets have deck boards on the top and bottom, which helps increase the pallet’s strength and how much it can lift. The bottom deck board provides extra support for a heavier lift.
4. Winged Pallet
The special difference between winged pallets and other types is that normally, the pallets and deck boards hang aligned. A winged pallet creates an overlay or a “wing” so that the deck hangs over the one above or below it.
5. Solid Deck Pallet
The solid deck pallet uses one large piece of wood, usually plywood, without any spaces instead of using multiple deck boards. Under the wooden sheet, it’s built the same way as standard wood pallets with blocks and bottom deck boards.
6. Open Deck Pallet
Open deck pallets have gaps between the deck boards. They are typically lighter and less expensive, but you can’t use them for smaller packaging because they can fall through the open spaces.
7. Corrugated Cardboard Pallet
Corrugated cardboard is not as thick or heavy as regular cardboard and it’s made with cardboard materials, but its structure is designed to be more durable.
Corrugated cardboard pallets are an eco-friendly option to lower-grade recycled pallets. They are best for one-way and international shipping.
