How Much Does a Content Creator Make?

Social media influencer. Internet celebs. Content creators.

You’ve heard these buzzwords before — you may even follow a few people with these job titles on Instagram or TikTok. But you have a lot of questions about them and how lucrative their careers can be.

Namely, you want to know how much money they make? A content creator salary is not universal. Here’s how they make their cash — and what they can potentially earn while online.

Content Creator Salary on YouTube

YouTubers can start making money once they have 1,000 subscribers and at least 4,000 watch hours on the site. After that, they can join the site’s Partner Program and start earning with every view their videos receive.

On top of that, YouTubers can make money with sponsorships, selling their merchandise, and by having Google ads on their pages. The amount a person makes per 1,000 video views depends on a person’s subscriber number, but the average YouTuber makes between $3 and $5 per 1,000 views.

Content Creator Salary on TikTok

Much like YouTube, a TikToker’s earnings depend on their subscriber numbers. But there’s a much higher threshold, as far as being able to monetize one’s TikTok page.

A creator on this social media app won’t be able to earn money from their account unless they have a minimum of 100,000 followers. If you’re wondering how to increase your follower count to be able to earn cash, try finding a way to get likes on TikTok and get more attention for your page.

Once you have 100,000 followers or more, you can expect to make $200 to $5,000 per month from your TikTok page. You can make even more if you get sponsored and post branded content. Some of those posts can earn up to $20,000, although creators with closer to 100,000 followers might make only $200 per sponsored video.

Content Creator Salary on Instagram

It’s harder to say how much an Instagram influencer makes. Each influencer sets their own rates for creating branded content. And, depending on their follower count, they can get huge amounts of money for a single Instagram story or post.

For smaller-scale influencers, they might charge $100 per 10,000 followers to create sponsored content. But again, it’s hard to say how much Instagram content creators make: some Instagram influencers make hundreds each month, while others make hundreds of thousands each month.

Influencers can also make money by selling their own products or services. They might re-sell clothes. Or they might leverage their platforms to create a product line that sells in traditional brick-and-mortar stores.

The value of such sales is hard to average out, as there are so many types of Instagram content creators. Just know that the top-tier Internet celebs are raking in huge amounts for an Instagram post, but smaller-scale influencers get paid to post, too.
